Initial Announcement of XRP Payments for Xsolla and Roblox Deleted

BitPay, one of the most prominent crypto-focused payment platforms, has retracted and deleted a statement about a partnership with Xsolla to enable XRP payments for gaming platforms such as Roblox.

BitPay’s Initial Announcement

BitPay announced the partnership in a post on X yesterday, as reported by The Crypto Basic. The payment platform revealed that they had collaborated with Xsolla, a global gaming commerce platform, to allow customers to pay for their gaming needs with XRP.

Xsolla provides tools and services for game developers, publishers, and players. It offers solutions for monetization, payment processing, and in-game purchases. One of the gaming platforms supported by Xsolla is Roblox.

In the now-deleted post, BitPay highlighted that users could leverage XRP payments on Xsolla for platforms like SMITE and Roblox. The disclosure garnered significant attention due to the large global user base that Xsolla commands.

Emerging Concerns

However, doubts emerged when users could not find an avenue to pay with XRP on BitPay or Xsolla. Notably, Kristen Dack, a Real Estate Broker at Dack Realty, revealed on X that attempts to set up a BitPay payment avenue to pay for her daughter’s gaming needs were futile, as they could not find Roblox or Xsolla on BitPay.

Dack had earlier expressed excitement over the report from BitPay. She highlighted that Roblox boasts millions of users, and the development could lead to more XRP adoption. When she could not find Xsolla or Roblox on BitPay, she aimed to refer to the tweet for guidance but found it had been deleted.

In addition, The Crypto Basic did some digging as well. However, on Roblox, we could only find conventional payment options such as credit and debit cards, Paysafecard, Venmo, PayPal, gift cards, and other fiat-based avenues. No mention of crypto or XRP.

What Happened?

The Crypto Basic reached out to Xsolla on the matter, seeking to ascertain if the announcement was entirely false or if the process of XRP integration was ongoing but not yet completed. However, a spokesperson from Xsolla declined to give a precise answer.

Notably, Xsolla had refuted any connection with the now-deleted announcement from BitPay. Bill Zielke, BitPay’s Chief Marketing Officer, disclosed to other media outlets that the post contained an error, hence the removal. He noted that more information on crypto payments will come up shortly.

The Crypto Basic contacted Roblox and BitPay to shed more light on the issue, but neither has responded as of press time. This article will be updated to reflect any new discovery from future responses to our query.

It bears mentioning that BitPay’s partnerships with multiple merchants have exposed crypto payments to mainstream adoption. The payment processor announced support for XRP in January 2020. Since then, it has introduced XRP payments to merchants such as Newegg, AirBaltic, and AMC Theaters.
