Ohio State lands transfer LB Nigel Glover, highest-rated recruit in 2023 Northwestern class

Former Northwestern linebacker Nigel Glover announced Tuesday that he plans to transfer to Ohio State. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Glover signed with Northwestern as a four-star prospect out of Northmont High School in Clayton, Ohio, in the 2023 class.
  • He was ranked as the No. 335 player nationally and No. 10 player in Ohio in the 247Sports Composite.
  • Glover entered the transfer portal on July 17 after coach Pat Fitzgerald was fired amid the fallout from the school’s hazing investigation. He will be immediately eligible for the Buckeyes.

What does this mean for Ohio State?

With preseason camp getting underway this week, Ohio State made a late addition to its crop of freshmen. Glover, who was the first Northwestern player to enter the portal after Fitzgerald’s ouster, was the highest-rated signee in Northwestern’s 2023 class.

Given that he’s a late addition to the roster and is a freshman, it’s hard to see him making an immediate impact with the Buckeyes, but he’ll add more depth to the position once he joins the team — especially given that Arvell Reese was the only linebacker the Buckeyes signed in the class.

For now, Ohio State is set at the position with Tommy Eichenberg, Steele Chambers, Cody Simon and C.J. Hicks leading the way. This might not be a transfer pickup that Ohio State fans see pay off right away, but it bodes well for the future depth.
