Shiba Inu Introduces SHIB Name Service on Shibarium

Shiba Inu takes the first step towards the building of Shibidentity by launching the Shib Name Service (SNS) on the popular L2 blockchain Shibarium.

Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer of Shiba Inu, has introduced a brand new feature on Shibarium.

In a blog post, Kusama announced that the development team behind the Shiba Inu ecosystem has launched Shib Name Service (SNS) on the Shibarium network.

According to Kusama, the launch of SNS marks the first step towards the development of the much-anticipated Shibidentity. This feature will enable Shiba Inu enthusiasts to “own and control their digital identities.”

SNS Features

Notably, the SNS feature will allow Shibarium users to have human-readable addresses instead of complex addresses containing sequences of digits and letters. With SNS, Kusama explained that users can easily send crypto assets to friends using their Shib names.

“For example, you can send tokens to ‘bob.shib’ instead of a lengthy and confusing wallet address such as 0xCD4C526E9981d690472d1cB85F2ddf08451C4673,” Kusama remarked.

Besides giving users human-readable addresses, Kusama also highlighted other benefits of the SNS feature, which include maximum security, decentralization, error reduction, extensibility, censorship resistance, and interoperability.

A Component of Shibidentity

It bears mentioning that SNS is an essential component of Shibidentity, a project that Kusama characterized as “a paradigm shift in decentralized identity solutions.”

Shibidentity will allow people to control their digital identities via self-custodial authentication, smart wallets, and verifiable credentials.

How to Purchase Unique Shib Names

The Shiba Inu lead also shared guidance to help Shiba Inu community members get their unique Shib names. Getting a unique Shib name requires users to visit the SNS platform.

Upon visiting the website, users must connect their wallets and search for a name. If available, the user can purchase the name and specify the period for which they want to retain the name.

After completing the steps, the user will have to approve the transaction in your wallet. Users can view the purchased name by clicking the “My Names” button on the platform.

Shiba Inu Announces $5K Giveaway

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Shiba Inu also confirmed the launch of SNS. It described the launch as the moment the SHIB community had been expecting.

As reported earlier, Shiba Inu initiated a 72-hour countdown for the launch of the blockchain-based identity solution.

The team also encouraged the community to participate in the contest to receive a share of the $5,000 giveaway. Notably, the giveaway was announced to celebrate the launch of SNS.
