USMNT defender Auston Trusty joins Sheffield United from Arsenal

Auston Trusty has completed a permanent move to Sheffield United from Arsenal.

The Athletic previously reported that the USMNT defender was set to join the Premier League side in a permanent deal for a fee of £5million ($6.4m), with centre-back signing a four-year deal with his new side.

The 23-year-old has now completed his transfer to Bramall Lane and revealed that the move has come together exactly how he envisioned it.

He told his new club’s website: “I am more than excited. The opportunity to be here at this historic club, and an opportunity to play in the Premier League, and show my ability, it is everything I could have ever dreamed of growing up as a kid. In Pennsylvania, this was a dream – almost an impossible dream but I believed in myself and the opportunity has come around, it is everything that I dreamed for.

“It is crazy how quickly things happen in football. I have just come back from a US tour with Arsenal and a couple of days later I am sitting here doing this interview. Things did happen very quickly, but that’s how football works. I was really looking for an opportunity so as soon as it came about, things and details were ironed out. I am here, I wasn’t wasting any time.

“Everything is coming to fruition for me. I am in the right place at the right time and in the right mindset. Everything has come together how I dreamed it.”

Trusty joined Arsenal from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids in January 2022 after the club worked closely with the MLS club to identify Trusty as a talent. He re-joined the American side on loan until the end of that season.

The defender spent last season on loan at Championship club Birmingham City, where he made 48 appearances scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Trusty’s strong performances on loan at Birmingham earned him his first senior appearance for the U.S. national team, starting a 7-1 victory over Grenada in March.

Sheffield United are next in action in their final pre-season game against German club Stuttgart on Saturday.
