West Ham considering fresh James Ward-Prowse bid after £30million offer rejected

West Ham are considering a fresh approach for James Ward-Prowse after seeing a £30million ($38.3m, €34.4m) offer rejected by Southampton.

A bid in the region of £27m plus £3m in add-ons has been knocked back by the Championship club, who are holding out for more for their club captain.

West Ham are the only Premier League club yet to strengthen their squad this summer with David Moyes still keen for a number of reinforcements before the window closes.

England international Ward-Prowse is high on the club’s priority list, especially following the exit of fellow midfielder Declan Rice to Arsenal in a £105m transfer last month.

The 28-year-old, who has three years remaining on his current contract, is keen on the move and a return to the top flight.

Southampton have already lost defender Mohammed Salisu this summer while winger Mislav Orsic has also departed.

Midfielder Shea Charles has arrived from Manchester City in a £10.5m deal as the expected replacement for Romeo Lavia, who is the subject of interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea.

Southampton kick off their Championship campaign on Friday against Sheffield Wednesday before West Ham begin their Premier League season at Bournemouth on Saturday, August 12.
